Pagani Utopia R Previewed By Graphic Artist

But will Horacio Pagani build a track-only R version of his latest artisanal creation?

What if thePagani Utopiawas given the hardcore R treatment applied to its predecessors? That question has been asked and answered by a virtual artist who goes by Nardo Design on Instagram, and the results are spectacular.

Like thedeafening Huayra Rand Zonda R that came before it, the track-only Utopia R would likely be offered in a naked carbon fiber finish with some Pirelli decals to show onlookers at the track that it supports Italian brands.

But the most apparent change to the bodywork (which is already made from carbon fiber and titanium on the existing "regular" Utopia) is the addition of a massive rear wing with two inboard pylons.

The artist has also seen fit to add a roof scoop, which we saw on the Zonda R and Huayra R, as well as some carbon fiber wheels and canards and a race-spec fuel filler receptacle, but we're not so sure that the Utopia will get this extreme treatment.

This Pagani has been conceived and created as a sculptural ode to elegance. Although the Huayra and Zonda aren't ugly (depending on who you ask), the Utopia's USP is its sleek form, and the lack of intakes and scoops is intentional.

That said, Pagani has never been a company to shy away from special editions. Yes, the Utopia is limited to just 99 units, but the Huayra was limited to 100, andlook how many special editions that car spawned.

As standard, the existing Utopia produces 852 horsepower from a bespoke 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 that Mercedes-AMG built specifically for the car. More importantly, it has a dry weight of just 2,822 pounds, which makes it a fantastic candidate for a race car.

Without leather, infotainment, and other creature comforts, and with a bit more power, a potential Utopia R would be a magnificent beast to drive. If (more likely when) it does happen, we sincerely hope that the Utopia R is the powerful, eardrum-shattering machine that its predecessors were.

The only question is how many special iterations of it we'll see between now and the track-only hypercar's almost inevitable release.
