One-Off Plymouth Barracuda Four-Door Is A Muscle Car Unicorn

This showstopper is a custom build created by the late Dave Walden.

Aside from the modern-dayDodge Charger(and therecently revealed Chrysler 300C limited edition), the four-door muscle car is somewhat of a rarity. Perhaps things would have been different if Plymouth forged ahead with its plans for a Barracuda sedan. Seen below is the world's only four-door Barracuda, a custom build inspired by an idea fromthe now-defunct company.

This automotive delight was crafted by the late Dave Walden, who was greatly admired in the restoration community. Inspired by the original thought, Walden set about designing what a '70 E-body would look like as a sedan. Most of the all-steel bodywork was hand-fabricated, creating a unique roof line for the new door design. The finished product, I'm sure you'd agree, looks incredible and drew plenty of attention at the 2016 SEMA show.

A stickler for detail, Walden painted his creation in FE5 Rallye Red, which contrasts nicely with the black vinyl roof. The vehicle sits on chromed five-spoke wheels, themselves shod in redline tires. The wheel arches wear a subtle chrome lip molding and, at the rear, you'll find the Barracuda badging. The cherry on top has got to be the imitation MSRP window sticker, which resembles a '70s document from the Chrysler Corporation.

Inside, you'll find a black interior, replete with bench seating and a center armrest for front passengers. It's a period-correct custom car and boasts amenities you'd expect from a car of this period. As such, there's an AM radio, rear courtesy lights, and an adjustable steering wheel. The VIN is entirely legal, meaning you could drive this one-off on the roads with ease.

由340年E55梭鱼四门ci V8, a 5.6-liter engine with 275 horsepower. The powerplant boasts a four-barrel carburetor, dual exhausts, and high-flow exhaust manifolds. Power is sent to the wheels via an A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. To make life a bit easier for those behind the wheel, the one-of-one sedan boasts power steering and power front disc brakes.

If you're hoping to get your hands on this incredible build, you'll have to exercise some patience. The vehicle will only be offered next year, at Mecum Auction's Kissimmee 2023 event, between January 4 - 15. No estimate has been given, but we anticipate that Plymouth collectors will be willing to part with generous sums of money to own this car.

The four-door is one of the stars in a big collection, which includes a host of American icons, including more than ten examples of the legendary Dodge Daytona. Other lots include European sports cars (such as a '98 911 Carrera Convertible and a Ferrari California) but most of the collection is made up of American muscle.

Several original Barracudas are also heading toward the auction block, including a 426 ci-powered Hemi Cuda. This 7.0-liter V8 monster was, interestingly, restored by Dave Walden himself, and is considered to be the most expensive 1970 hardtop model to ever be produced.

Another particularly desirable lot is the 1971 Barracuda Convertible. The example offered by Mecum Auctions isn't entirely original and sports an aftermarket sound system and wheels. Still, ifpast sales are anything to go by, it should sell for a pretty penny.
