Polestar's sleek O2 concept will become the Polestar 6.
It's a great day in the automotive world. With crossovers and SUVs dominating the headlines, a breath of fresh air comes in the form of an announcement from Polestar - thedrop-dead gorgeous O2conceptis officially destined for production and will arrive in 2026 as the Polestar 6.
Initially, there were no plans to put the elegant electric roadster into production, but company CEO Thomas Ingenlath said overwhelming customer response led to the decision.
"We took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality. Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down," he added.
Production of the battery-powered sports car is only expected to commence in 2026. However, eager customers in Polestar markets across the globe will be able to reserve a car from August 16. To celebrate the planned arrival of the company's sixth model, Polestar will introduce a launch edition called the Polestar 6 LA Concept edition.
Like the concept that was unveiled in Los Angeles earlier this year, these early models - limited to just 500 units - will wear the stunning Sky blue paintwork, 21-inch wheels, and a light-colored leather interior. But the future Tesla Roadster rival isn't just about good looks; Polestar is promising impressive levels of performance.
Based upon Polestar's in-house developed platform, the roadster will use the same 800-volt architectureas the upcoming Polestar 5. We can expect strong outputs, with up to 884 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Polestar has said it is targeting a 0-62-mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
