Official: Next-Gen Mazda Miata Will Be A Hybrid

It's a car that is made better for all its simplicity, not worse, and the connection drivers feel with the road when in a Miata is simply unparalleled. But while the chassis isgreat for setting lap times, what makes the MX-5 particularly special is its unassisted, free-breathing engine, something that is rare in performance cars of any kind. In a statement given to the press, the Japanese automaker has said the following: "Mazda is seeking to electrify the MX-5 Miata in an effort to have all models feature a form of electrification by 2030. We will work hard to make it a lightweight, affordable, open two-seater sports car in order to meet the needs of customers." This statement comes after an earlier report fromKuruma-newsin Japan revealed that Mazda would electrify its entire lineup by 2030. This does not mean that the entire Mazda offering will be pure electric though, so Mazda's Skyactiv-X tech and other engines may still prolong the time we have with internal combustion.
