Sports Cars /20 Comments

This will be the biggest change in the history of the Miata!

TheMazda MX-5 Miatahas and always will be one of the purest driving experiences ever. It's a car that is made better for all its simplicity, not worse, and the connection drivers feel with the road when in a Miata is simply unparalleled. But while the chassis isgreat for setting lap times, what makes the MX-5 particularly special is its unassisted, free-breathing engine, something that is rare in performance cars of any kind. However, Mazda is not immune to the pressure to make its products cleaner, and the automaker has begunworking on electrification.我们曾希望Miata我们uld retain its N/A characteristics, butwe suspectedthat hybridization would come into effect, and now we have confirmation of just that.

In a statement given to the press, the Japanese automaker has said the following: "Mazda is seeking to electrify the MX-5 Miata in an effort to have all models feature a form of electrification by 2030. We will work hard to make it a lightweight, affordable, open two-seater sports car in order to meet the needs of customers." This statement comes after an earlier report fromKuruma-newsin Japan revealed that Mazda would electrify its entire lineup by 2030. This does not mean that the entire Mazda offering will be pure electric though, so Mazda's Skyactiv-X tech and other engines may still prolong the time we have with internal combustion.

Mazda wants one-quarter of its cars to be fully electric, with the remaining 75 percent to be hybrids. So the MX-5 Miata will definitely be getting electric assistance in its next generation, but how that electrification will be implemented is yet to be revealed. Obviously, a lot can change between now and 2030, so Mazda doesn't want to make too many promises just yet, but so far, bar the oddity that is the NC generation MX-5, pretty muchevery version of the Miatahas been universally loved. Would Mazda mess with that? We doubt it. So while we don't know how the Miata will be electrified, we have immense faith that the next MX-5 will still be light, approachable, and fun to drive. Fingers crossed.
