Here's when you will see it.

Having been introduced to the US market back in 2004, theNissan Frontieris by far the oldest pickup truck you can buy. Building the truck for so long with minimal changes means Nissan can now sell it for a bargain price of $19,090, but unless you simply hate modern technology, there is little reason not to opt for one of the Frontier's younger competitors.

Details about the next-generation Frontier have been scarce thus far with early rumors pointing towards aSeptember 2020 reveal. Nissan has also promiseddevelopment is underwayand the final product will not disappoint. In a recent interview with MotorTrend at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan delved a little deeper into what we can expect from the next Frontier.

Ivan Espinosa, corporate vice president of Global and Japan product planning said, "it is a priority for us," referring to the Frontier. Espinosa confirmed the truck would be revealed sometime in 2020 but declined to reveal which auto show Nissan had chosen or if it would be revealed at a private event. Either way, an all-new truck will certainly improve the Frontier's sales. Surprisingly, the Frontier still outsells theHonda RidgelineandGMC Canyondespite its advanced age, yet it does not even approach the sales of theToyota Tacoma.

"I think it will be a home run," said Espinosa. The current Frontier has succeeded with strong technology (when it launched) and excellent driving dynamics. "We'll keep nailing that," he added. This new model will be based on the same basic architecture as the current one but heavily modified to accept the latest safety and driver assistance technology.

It will also feature a vastly improved powertrain compared to the aging 2.5-liter inline-four and 4.0-liter V6 but Espinosa declined to go into further detail. Alfonso Albaisa, Global Vice President of Design at Nissan wouldn't confirm if Nissan has settled on a design language but said the new truck will encompass the "spirituality of adventure" and look "strong."
