New Porsche 911 GT3 RS Hits The Road For Final Testing

Porsche had a fantastic 2021, managing tobreak its own sales record. And if new arrivals for 2022 are anything to go by, it'll be some time yet before the German automaker finds itself worrying about cash flow. Among other offerings, we're looking forward to the reveal of the all-newPorsche 911 GT3 RS, a super sports car that we recently saw beingdriven hard on the Nordschleife. Unfortunately, the famous toll road is nowclosed for annual repairs, but that doesn't mean that Porsche's engineers are taking a breather. Our spy photographers have managed to capture images of the new machine being tested back home in Wiessach, the municipality where Porsche oversees everything from the first sketch to the finished prototype of all production cars.

There's not a whole lot different on this car compared to the one that was seen hammering around the Ring earlier this month, but the hood seems to be a more finished example with cleaner outlets. It's unclear yet if these vents will feature slats or something else to prevent much water ingress, but it is safe to assume that these will act in a similar fashion to the S-duct that you get on cars like the Ferrari 488 Pista and Koenigsegg Jesko Attack. If so, the vents will help improve front-end downforce. Vents behind the front wheels suggest more aero trickery, likely to aid the fender-topping vents in their quest to reduce brake temperatures and increase aero efficiency when driving vigorously.

It is believed that the new super sports car will be powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six that will produce anywhere between 540 and 580 horsepower, but as theswan-neck rear wing suggests, this is and always has been a car that is more focused on handling supremacy than straight-line bragging rights. Sadly, driver engagement will be limited by the fact that a dual-clutch automatic is expected to be the only transmission option. Of course, Porsche may yet surprise us with three pedals as an option, but in a car as capable as this one, we'd highly recommend keeping both hands on the wheel at all times. Expect a reveal sometime soon with an on-sale date for later this year.
