New Mercedes Infotainment System Coming Soon

MBUX had a good run.

MBUX is dying. Really, we're quite bummed out. MBUX, Mercedes' infotainment system found in new vehicles like theMercedes-Benz EQSandEQEsedans, is pretty much as good as modern infotainment got. The whole thing was controlled either via touchscreen or touch-sensitive pads on the wheel. It was a safe, effective way to manage your car's computer functions without getting distracted.

Frankly, it'll be hard to improve on. Now, the brand is seeking to do just that with what it calls MB.OS. Already, one of the biggest weak points found in MBUX has been addressed. The "Hey Mercedes" function is being re-worked to provide better voice assistance to users. Mercedes also says that conversation with the system will feel more "fluid."

The German marque says MB.OS is going to "offer a high-performance, long-lasting and energy-efficient architecture that brings a raft of customer benefits." The brand wants MB.OS to be so good at what it does that it saves customers huge amounts of time by automating various tasks, using AI to learn more about the person using it. It all sounds a little Orwellian, we know, but the intentions are pure.

With the new system, Mercedes'wild-looking Hyperscreenwill be able to show 3D navigation, which can be used from satellite view all the way down to as close as 30 feet. It'll also take into account the time of day to ensure the image you see is accurate. Reportedly, there will also be a 3D "Star Avatar" that'll fill the role of the current "Hey Mercedes"software found on MBUX.

You'll also be able to have playlists curated based on your taste in music. The car will also coach you on your driving, whether you're lead-footed or driving a little too economically. Eventually, MB.OS will roll out across every single vehicle in Merc's lineup, which will then be reused across each model's new iterations to become a living, constantly improved UI experience.

MBUX is pretty good, but if Mercedes is able to work in half of the improvements above, the new system should vastly improve on the old infotainment system. And don't worry about that AI-learning thing, Mercedes says it'll observe strict data privacy policies, and not create a Terminator with your search history.
