New Hyperscreen Not Coming To Mercedes-Benz S-Class

For decades, theMercedes S-Classhas represented the German automaker's luxury and technology flagship. This week, however, Mercedes took itsMBUX infotainment techto a new level with the reveal of the newultra-wide Hyperscreenfeaturing a massive 56-inch display spanning almost the entire width of the interior. Suddenly, the screen tech inside the new S-Class looks outdated by comparison.

年代o far, the ultra-wide Hyperscreen has only been announced as anoptional extra for the upcoming EQSelectric sedan, which will be the electric equivalent of the S-Class. However, if you were hoping the Hyperscreen will be available for the combustion-powered S-Class, prepare to be disappointed.

年代ajjad Khan, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG, has confirmed the Hyperscreen won't be available for the S-Class because it's "based on another kind of technology" and "is a different derivative."

Instead, the S-Class will only be available with a standard 12.8-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver's gauge cluster, but we doubt anyone will be disappointed with the advanced tech on offer here. For the first time, the new S-Class is available with a 3D driver display and the portrait-infotainment screen features OLED technology. Up to five screens are available to keep both front and rear passengers entertained on journeys. However, while the Hyperscreen won't be rolled out across Mercedes' entire model lineup, Kahn confirmed it will "be available in other" EQ variants like the smaller ESE.

In the future, the Hyperscreen will continue to evolve thanks to over-the-air software updates. Khan added that the Hyperscreen is a "natural progression to the MBUX" system offered in the S-Class and likens the technology to the "brain and nervous system of the car."

年代panning over 56 inches, the new Hyperscreen incorporates multiple displays that appear to blend seamlessly, while the new "zero layer" design makes the most important applications accessible at all times. Aside from the air vents, the enormous screen has no physical functions whatsoever. The AI is also smarter than before and can make relevant, context-aware suggestions based on the driver's habits.

"The MBUX Hyperscreen continually gets to know the customer better and delivers a tailored, personalized infotainment and operating offering before the occupant even has to click or scroll anywhere", Kahn explained. "We didn't want to build the biggest screen ever in a car. Instead, we have developed special screens with a perfect ratio of size and functionality for maximum user-friendliness."

No doubt we'll learn more about Mercedes' incredible Hyperscreen technology when the EQS debuts this year.
