TEASED: New Alfa Romeo Supercar Reveal Is A Month Away

Teaser /Comments

And the cryptic caption seems to hide some clues about the new creation's details.

Alfa Romeo has teased another look at its upcoming supercar, scheduled to be revealed on August 30. The new teaser was posted on Instagram and gives us a blurry look at the car's steering wheel, which boasts brown leather and milled aluminum accents. Although it's difficult to be sure, it seems that the steering wheel will be relatively simple, eschewing the industry trend of overloading the spokes with buttons.

This fits with the classic, old-school vibe that one expects of a modern supercar that is referenced by a classic racer from the 1960s. But what else can we look forward to? The caption to the post provides some potential clues.

The caption was posted with 792 hours and six weeks to go until its reveal, and Alfa Romeo drew specific attention to these two numbers. Why? Potentially, 792 refers to the power output. This fits with a recent rumor from the Italian publicationQuattroruote, which claimed that the new Alfa supercarcould have as much as 800 horsepower. The second number could refer to the car's name, which has beenrumored to be 6C, following the 8C Competizione and the 4C.

The 8C had a V8, the 4C had a four-cylinder, and the new supercar is tipped to receive a V6, so this makes sense as a new name. On the other hand, other rumors have suggested the name will beinspired by that of the 33 Stradale, which would mean that Alfa's focus on the number six is simply calling attention to how many cylinders its engine will have.

Whatever it's called, the new supercar will be a huge success, as Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Phillippe Imparato claimed that the new carwas almost totally spokenfor long before its public debut. If that's true, Alfa Romeo will have a successful halo model above the aging but still brilliantGiulia QuadrifoglioGTAm. This will bring in some extra cash, but the real reason it is being launched is to change the public's perception of the brand.

Kids of today haven't grown up watching Alfa Romeo dominate motorsports or producing works of art that are worthy of a place in the Louvre. By launching a sexy, classically styled supercar, Alfa Romeo will reassert its position as one of the most stylish and special brands in the world, and that should translate to greater everyday sales and a more upmarket feel, something Alfa Romeo needs to reinfuse into its brand before electrification makes differentiation more difficult.
