New Alfa Romeo Sports Car Will Be Revealed In First Half Of 2023

The CEO just needs to decide whether it will be ICE or EV.

If you asked us about Dodge's future a week ago, we would have told you that it was in real danger of falling by the wayside. The same goes for another Stellantis brand, Alfa Romeo.

But following a constant barrage of Dodge news this week, things look fantastic for the Netherlands-based Stellantis conglomerate.Demand for the all-new Hornet is through the roof, which is good for Stellantis' banking account. But, more importantly, it proved that EVs could be fun, sexy, loud, and engaging with thenew Charger Daytona SRT Conceptunveiled this week.

This gives us hope for Alfa Romeo, which will likely undergo the same extreme makeover as Dodge in 2023. According to its CEO, that's when we'll get to see thehighly-anticipated sports car.

In an interview withAutocar, Jean-Philippe Imparato said that we can expect to see this all-new sporty Alfa in the first half of 2023. Imparato is not sure whether it will be an advanced sketch or a concept car, but something is better than nothing.

The rumor mill suggests that its design will borrow heavily from the famous T33 Stradale, and Imparato basically confirmed it: "I can say yes, but I can't say anything else," he said. "We have so many fantastic ideas based on our iconic history."

Imparato has been very active in the media of late, creating hype for Alfa's upcoming models. We knowAlfa will be going electric in 2025, but not in the way most people expect.

Imparato stated previously that Alfa has no intention of building a large SUV, as its first EV's design would be dictated by aerodynamics. He's also dead set on keeping the brand sporty, which goes against earlier reports that the brandwill drop its sporty imagein favor of becoming more rational.

Initial rumors suggested that the unnamed sports car would be electric, but considering the timeline, it might just be an ICE car after all. Imparato is not willing to commit to an answer yet. "For the moment, I have two scenarios: full ICE or full EV," said Imparato. "It will be very exciting, very selective, and very expensive."

We're hoping for ICE because it would be a fitting swansong for a brand that has been connected to iconic V6 engines for a long time. TheBusso V6 was a gloriousif unreliable piece of engineering and the twin-turbo Ferrari-sourced V6 in the front of theAlfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifogliomakes us weak at the knees.

We have high hopes for the future as well. The upcomingAlfa Romeo Tonaleis a Hornet underneath, meaning there's much sharing going on behind the scenes at Stellantis. That means Alfa will likely have access to the technology that debuted in the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept.

Suddenly, Alfa's future is looking quite bright.
