MGB Reborn With V8 And Electric Powertrain Options

With a growing market forclassic electromods, UK-based firm Frontline is the latest to join the fray with the reveal of the MG BEE (short for MGB EV Edition). As its name implies, the MGB-based electromod aims to retain the fun in driving by keeping the driving characteristics of a combustion engine car despite switching to an all-electric powertrain.

Frontline installed a five-speed Mazda-derived transmission, which the company claims provides a similar feel to the ICE cars typically equipped with it. The firm said the gearbox works like a traditional one - except for the ability to start and stop in any gear and not stall. Prospective owners should also enjoy the EV's ability to heel and toe.

While modern EVs like theHyundai Ioniq 5 Nemploy simulated transmissions, it's not quite the same as the real deal. But perhaps more exciting is that the BEE can rev up to 9,000 rpm between shifts.

Powering the electromod is a Hyper9 100 KW (134 horsepower) motor with 162 lb-ft of torque and a power-to-weight ratio of 102 horsepower per ton. With a 40 kWh battery in place, the BEE weighs approximately 2,617 lbs and can charge from 0-100% in five hours when using a 7 kW charger.

The BEE will be offered in two body configurations - the BEE roadster and the BEE GT coupe.
