Industry News /Comments

After recent rumors revealed the idea.

Mercedes-Benz has beenlinked to an American market subscription service. Late last week the company confirmed it will, in fact, launch such a subscription service called Mercedes-Benz Collection in June, with the program to be piloted in the cities of Philadelphia and Nashville. Like the service first pioneered by Cadillac, Mercedes will allow subscribers to hop in and out of the brand's cars based on their variable day-to-day hopes and dreams.

The ideal client is envisioned to require a quiet hybrid for low-impact commuting during the week, whilst requiring a convertible for the scenic drive on the weekend, or a larger SUV to tow the family boat. Mercedes says options will include its full repertoire of coupes, cabriolets, roadsters, sedans, wagons, and SUVs. There will be escalating price tiers which will determine what vehicles a subscriber has access to, with AMG models likely limited to the highest tier. Like other iterations from other automakers, the service will operate through a smartphone app. Customers will be able to view and request vehicles which will be delivered to them by a concierge service.

Mileage will not be limited but fuel will not be included, insurance will be handled by Mercedes as will the inconveniences of maintenance and roadside assistance. Prices for the subscriptions will remain unannounced until closer to pilot program's launch in June. However, similar programs from BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche range from $1,800 per month to more than $3,000.
