Frank Heyl started as a senior exterior designer at Bugatti in 2008.

Bugatti has announced Frank Heyl as the brand's new Director of Design. He succeeds Achim Anscheidt, wholeft his post recently after 19 yearsof penning iconic Bugatti designs, including the Veyron,Chiron, and many others.

Heyl is no stranger to Bugatti, taking the lead role with 15 years of experience in the company's design department. It was in 2008 when Heyl started as a senior exterior designer at Bugatti, allowing him to work on hypercars like the Chiron,Divo, Bolide, and W16 Mistral under Anscheidt, which should give him a strong understanding of how the company works. Anscheidt, meanwhile, will still be around to bounce ideas off of, as he will serve in an advisory role to new CEO Mate Rimac.

The new Director of Design aims to deliver timeless car designs with the concept "form follows performance" in mind.

After all, performance has always been the centerpiece of Bugatti, with models like the Veyron putting the brand on the map by wowing the worldwith exhilarating speed records.

"Cars are, and always have been center stage of my life - from designing them to driving them," says Heyl. "At Bugatti, I have always sought to combine this fascination with my love for technology and innovation, just as the founders of the brand had done, creating shapes that fulfill the core essence of the brand: performance."

Heyl will also oversee the Sur Mesure, Bugatti's first-ever customization program built upon its "distinguished history of coachbuilding, handcrafted interiors, paint finishes, embroidery, and bodywork."

The program's latest product was theChiron Pur Sport Grand Prix Specification, which boasts simple-yet-effective two-tone paint job of Matte Black Carbon over Matte Jet Grey.

Perhaps the first major task will be unveiling the Chiron'ssuccessor later this year, whose design was already completed prior to Heyl taking over. Speaking of this, Bugatti claims the hypercar "will capture the purest essence of Bugatti," and act as an homage to three core elements of Bugatti's history: Speed, Luxury, and Elegance.

"It is with great humility, respect, honor, pride, and joy that I take on this new responsibility to write the next chapter in this legendary brand's ethos with dignity."
