Look out Lotus: new startup Avatar is releasing a track car that weighs only 695kg and can reach 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds.
From theAriel Atomand theBAC Mono, to the卡特勒姆七Superlight系列and the ultra-limitedLotus 3-Eleven, nobody does lightweight, blisteringly fast track cars better than the Brits. New British startup Avatar is adding another one to the crowded market. Its first production car, the Avatar Roadster, will be shown at this week's 2017 Performance Car Show in Birmingham, England. Since revealing a prototype last year, over 100 refinements have been made to the production model.
Under the hood, the Roadster is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged Ford Ecoboost engine that will churn out 250 horsepower. It's extremely light, too, weighing only 695 kg, enabling the Roadster to hit 0-60 mph in just four seconds, and reach a top speed of 145 mph. And if that isn't fast enough for you, a more powerful 2.3-liter turbocharged version is available which uses a 350 horsepower engine from a Ford Focus RS, trimming the 0-60 mph time to 3.6 seconds. Power is delivered through a six-speed manual gearbox, but buyers can opt for a seven-speed paddle-shift sequential gearbox for "a more frenetic" shifting experience.
For the full track experience, the Roadster can also be fitted with a full roll cage, plumbed-in extinguisher, foam-filled tank, data logger, GoPro HD camera kit, rear wing and LSD, but will still be street-legal. You might think, then, that the Roadster would be impractical for the road, but it comes equipped with plenty of creature comforts including a full leather interior, a heater, air conditioning and AppleCar as standard. Pay a bit extra, and you'll get a fixed roof too. "After showing the prototype we realized that our customers wanted more." says Avatar Sports Cars director Dylan Popovic.
We listened and have responded to our customers who loved the superb performance and fine handling but wanted more refinement and features so they could use the car for more than just track days. We've smoothed the raw edges to create a much more rounded package. We've changed the suspension geometry, adjusted the steering rack ratios and improved the ergonomics in the cabin with intuitive switchgear as well as developed features that make the car a delight on the road and track." Production is set to begin this Spring with prices starting at 39,990 GBP ($49,115). Sadly, the Roadster isn't likely to be heading Stateside.
