Manny Khoshbin Shows Off New McLaren SLR HDK By MSO

It's one of just 12 that McLaren Special Operations has enhanced.

When it comes to the Mercedes-McLaren SLR, it's fair to say no one is a bigger fan than Manny Khoshbin, and the real estate mogul has now released a YouTube video showcasing the latest addition to his collection: SLR HDK by MSO (McLaren Special Operations), number 3 of 12 to be produced. While it started out as a 2006 coupe, it has been thoroughly reworked since.

It's clear to see this isn't your average SLR. Khoshbin lists the extensive changes to his new pride and joy, starting with the interior. A full retrim has been carried out, with the regular leather making way for Knight White hide with red and gray tartan. The entire center console has been redone in carbon fiber, while the stock dials and gauges have been swapped out for the cluster from an SLR 722S. Finally, parts of the dashboard have been finished in white leather.

But the most significant changes have taken place elsewhere.

MSO started by fitting theSLR HDKwith a wider exterior kit that not only looks menacing but provides greater downforce and aerodynamics. The iconic side vents - a tribute to the300 SLR of the 1950s- are now open, presumably for enhanced cooling.

一个t the rear, the most obvious change is the fixed rear wing. The SLR is known for its active rear air brake, which pops up under hard braking to bring the car to a stop. That's presumably been deactivated to make way for the new wing, which should give this SLR incredible downforce on the track. A prominent rear diffuser juts out of the rear bumper, while the trunk has been filled with a carbon fiber support structure for the various aero upgrades.

The F1-inspired front end has lost some character, with MSO removing some of the grille detailing. Overall, this special SLR looks fantastic in white, replete with color-matched lightweight racing wheels and red "03" decals.

Under the hood, you'll find the supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine. Khoshbin makes no mention of any performance upgrades but does note the exhaust has been redesigned. The ceramic-coated lightweight exhaust features bypass valves, along with a one-off tip design. The standard SLR already makes a fantastic sound, but the HDK sounds better still.

Several other changes should provide the McMerc with greater handling prowess. There's a new suspension along with upgraded steering components that make the car a lot smoother in the bends. "Overall, it feels like a brand new car," says Khoshbin. "It sounds absolutely incredible. I would say it's probably up there, as far as the joy ride excitement, [with] my [McLaren] P1." High praise indeed.

一个side fromthe awe-inspiring AMG One, the closest thing Mercedes makes to the SLR these days is theSL 63. Between that and the iconic SLR, we know what we'd want in our dream garage.
