Manhart Integrale 400 Is A Classic Italian Hot Hatch On Steroids

The German tuner has managed to extract 370 horsepower from the four-cylinder engine.

BMW tuning specialist Manhart Performance has focused on an unusual recipient, the iconic Lancia Delta HF Integrale. While the German-based companyusually focuses on modern vehicles, this is one of several classics it has enhanced in recent years. So what has it done with this Italian legend?

There's considerably more power for a start. The turbocharged 2.0-liter 16-valve engine benefits from a turbo upgrade with a turbo timer, racing header, and a turbo performance kit. The upgrade package includes forged pistons, forged H-shaft connecting rods, and a new camshaft from Catcams.

The fuel pump has also been upgraded, along with the radiator, while an air intake has been replaced by an uprated item from Group N. Elsewhere, there's also a Sachs clutch and enhanced gearbox.

Together with the Manhart ECU Remapping and 3.5-inch aftermarket exhaust system, the Manhart Integrale 400 now produces a whopping 370 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, making it more potent than a modern-day all-wheel drive hot hatch such as theVolkswagen Golf R.

It's considerably more muscular than the stock Delta HF Integrale, which left the factory with 207 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. The stock suspension and brakes wouldn't be able to keep the newfound muscle in check, so Manhart has decided to improve this as well.

And if that's not enough, 205/40ZR17 tires should provide all the grip you need. These tires envelop the gorgeous OZ Racing Rally Wheels, seen here in Dark Graphite with silver lettering. If this look isn't to your liking, Manhart will be happy to paint the rims in any color you choose - for a price.

Mercifully, Manhart has decided not to treat the Integrale 400 to itsgaudy black-and-gold color scheme. Instead, the fettled hot hatch has received a relatively subdued matte vinyl wrap, decals, and red accents. Thankfully, the vehicle hasn't been repainted, so this can be removed. Most Integrale owners would be interested in the performance enhancements, not the aesthetic updates. An Evo-style rear wing finishes everything off nicely.

Questionable wrap and decals aside, it looks great, and we would love tosee one in Rosso Monzawith white-painted OZ wheels.

The interior also received a light revision. Aside from a new steering wheel and floor mats, Manhart retrimmed the interior in leather and Alcantara, giving it an OEM look. The stock gear lever has been swapped out for a short shifter, but aside from that, it's your typical '80s/early '90s cabin.

Purists may disagree with the concept, but it's great to see a tuner improve an icon without ruining it, an accusation that has been leveled atcertain electric restomod companies.

Sadly, in recent years, the Lancia nameplate has become somewhat of a joke. The company sells just one vehicle (the Ypsilon), a dreadfully ugly machine based on the old Fiat 500 platform.

Hopefully, Stellantis can return the ailing marque to its former glory in the electric era. But, if you prefer to stick with the classics, keeping your cherished Integrale on the road is比以往任何时候都更容易.
