Walmart - yes, the multinational retail corporation where you typically buy your candy, sweat pants, and frozen dinners - also sells crate engines. As reported byThe Drive, the retailer has a wide variety, ranging from the very compact Small Block 355 to a large and burly 9.4-liter Chevy V8.

Plenty of engines compatible with various makes and models are likewise available. These range from GM-based motors to Chevy Performance engines and Ford Racing. These mostly come fully dressed and ready to go, and so are heavy on the wallet, but a few cheaper engine block assemblies are also available, letting you indulge in a swap project of your ownranging from weird to wild.

The most expensive we've found is a 785-horsepower supercharged E-Force Edelbrock motor for theFord F-150and Mustang. It costs around $40,213 when purchased online, and it is perfect for a drag truck that could knock the socks off of the700-hp F-150 from Ford Performance.

Meanwhile, the cheapest complete crate motor we've found is a 355 Small Block GM Style motor from BluePrint priced at a mere $4,789. That's perfect for a build similar to that deliciousrat rod truck made by Daniel Etter.

Besides the crate engines, the online Walmart store sells various car parts like turbo kits, replacement pistons, high-performance headers, coilovers, and other components. Suffice it to say, one can complete a build entirely with Walmart-sourced parts. The only thing lacking is a rolling chassis. Well, at leastyou can buy that from Dodgeinstead.

Of note, Walmart doesn't display these crate motors on a shelf. Instead, they are sold via the company's online store, and third-party sellers fulfill sales. This is commonly known in e-commerce as drop shipping. The caveat is that because Walmart facilitates the deal, these crate engines have free extended returns until January 31, 2024.

After you order the engine, it arrives on your doorstep neatly packaged in a wooden crate, with the motors arriving as quickly as three days from the date of purchase.

Walmart is a part of American culture, in more ways than one, so we can't think of anything more American than buying a big block V8 from the mega retailer.
