年代ometimes, the kids know what they're doing.

While classic cars are usually the preserve of the wealthy or those old enough to have bought them brand new and garaged them for decades, it's very rare to find someone who has barely escaped puberty piloting a car that is close to a hundred years old. People looking for a mix of old and new will usually opt for something with retro styling and modern underpinnings, something like theFord Bronco. But for the 23-year-old featured on this week's edition ofJay Leno's Garage, a 1927Ford Model Tis just perfect. Having discovered this car, which sat in a field for around 30 years, this young man set out to build something unique, and the results are eclectically cool.

Around 15 million examples of the Model T were produced since 1909, and the one we see here is a late 1927 model, one of the last ever made. It wasn't running when it was found and bought sight unseen, but fortunately, the reliability of these cars is incredible. There was very little rust and very little needed to get it on the go again. In fact, the internals of the engine are still completely original, and most parts of the car survived from when it was built. Those that couldn't be saved were, for the most part, replaced with new examples of the original parts. However, there's still some customization with beige paint on the firewall to match the wheels, and various bits and pieces that would have been period correct for hot-rodders of the 40s and 50s.

With roll-up windows, a Model A's radiator from the factory, and a body style referred to as the Doctor's Coupe, this late-model example is remarkably well-specced. As cool as all the little touches are to see in detail, our favorite part of this episode is seeing a young enthusiast choose to build something unique without all the garish and excessive modifications that are so common in the hot rod scene. He has a real passion for the antique and has saved a true classic from withering away, something that is so enjoyable to witness.

Jay Leno's enthusiasm for the car is also a joy to see, and the video sees both individuals make mention of numerous interesting details and anecdotes pertaining to the Model T's history. So get a cup of coffee, sit back, and watch the pure love of cars be expounded by two true enthusiasts.
