Tuning /21 Comments

Only around 10,500 XJ Coupes were originally built.

After being in production for over 50 years, theJaguar XJwas retired after the 2019 model year. Anelectric successor was planned but canceled, leaving the XF as theautomaker's only surviving sedan. The XJ was best known as Jaguar's flagship luxury sedan, but the British automaker also built alesser-known XJ Coupe.

You'd be forgiven for forgetting it ever existed because only around 10,500 were made between 1975 and 1978 during the Mk II generation, making it one of the most desirable XJs ever made. Over 40 years after it ended production, Polish design studio Carlex Design is giving the classic Jaguar XJ Coupe a new lease of life for the 21st century.

The custom Jaguar XJ Coupe is the first project that will launch under the company's new Carlex Jewel line, which focuses on modernizing classic cars with unique interiors. Only a few Carlex Jewel cars will be made every year. Photos released of the remastered XJ Coupe show an exquisite interior lavished with high-quality leather and wood as well as "carefully mastered details." Other Carlex Jewel projects will also include precious stones.

On the outside, the custom XJ Coupe is finished in British Racing green and fitted with a carbon body kit with flared fenders housing massive wheels, reducing the car's weight while giving it a more aggressive appearance.

Under the hood, the Jaguar XJ Coupe was originally offered with either a 4.2-liter inline-six or 5.3-liter V12, but Carlex's creation is powered by a V8 producing 400 horsepower. The gearbox, brakes, and suspension have also been upgraded to modern standards. We're expecting Carlex Design's Jaguar XJ Coupe to be built in extremely limited numbers.

Its exclusivity and the quality of interiors also means it will have an extortionate price tag. Carlex says more information about the reborn XJ Coupe will be revealed soon on social media, so stay tuned.
