Infiniti Teases Crazy-Looking EV Concept

Electric Vehicles /2 Comments

Finally Infiniti comes to the table.

Not all carmakers are in a rush to switch over to all-electric lineups. Some are slow to accept the inevitable. Infiniti seems to be one of those brands clinging on to ICE powertrains for as long as possible. Back in July, we reported that the brand washesitant to bring EVs to the USafter "taking into account market trends, the regulatory environment, and most importantly, customer preferences." The company has been more focused on releasing the newInfiniti QX60which isdriven by a more conventional powertrain, but the company just released an interesting new video titled "Ambition 2030: Charging forward to the horizon at Infiniti" which showcasesthe brand's electric visiongoing forward.

Like itssister company Nissan, Infiniti claims that it wants the majority of the vehicles it sells to be electrified by 2030, and to be fully sustainable at every level of production. "Today, we announce that not only will most of the vehicles we sell by 2030 be electrified, but also that those vehicles will embody our unique take on modern Japanese luxury. They will be daring, forward, and centered around the human experience," says Infiniti Chairman Peyman Kargar.

In the newly released video, the first half is spent spewing hot air into the earholes of the listener. Grandiose blabbering of human-centric goals and caring for the community are thrown about. The same thing every other car brand will tell you.

The interesting part comes close to the minute mark when we get to see a futuristic-looking machine that looks very much like an EV (due to the closed front grille). This crossover/coupe follows Infiniti's general styling, but looks like a tech marvel. A top view of the vehicle shows off what looks like solar panels on the roof. At exactly the one minute mark, a car appears out of the dark, and displays a beautiful lighting sequence and a glowing Infiniti badge. At the end of the video, three cars are shown driving towards the sunset: a coupe, some sort of crossover, and a more traditional SUV. Even though the video is pretty lame, we're excited to see what comes from these gorgeous EV concepts.
