Hyundai Ioniq 5 Is Already Old Enough For A Facelift

年代py Shots /6 Comments

Not that it needs one, in our opinion.

TheHyundai Ioniq 5was launched in 2021 with a futuristic but stylish design that has seen it age gracefully, and now South Korea's leading automaker has begun work on a refreshed model. As these images captured byCarBuzzspy photographers reveal, the changes will be slight, but that's no bad thing.

The headlights peering through the extensive camouflage appear to have received slightly updated graphics, but it's difficult to be sure. At the rear, however, it's clear that the indicator lights have been moved to a more traditional spot within the taillight cluster, moving up from the lower half of the rear bumper, and it would only make sense for the front lighting system to follow the same theme.

Assuming that the indicators on both ends of the EV will soon appear within their respective clusters, we wonder if the pinstripe accents on either side of the front grille and on either side of the rear license plate will become purely aesthetic or if they will be deleted. If the latter happens, it's safe to assume that the motif will be removed from the lower side moldings on the doors, too.

Elsewhere, our spies report that the parking sensors appear to have been moved slightly, and there may be a rear window wiper on this test mule. We hope the latter is true, as many owners have protested the exclusion of a wiper when the rear window gets slathered in sleet and sludge.

Interestingly, this test mule has no roof rails, which is something that hasbeen spied on overseas prototypes. Perhaps these will be added later, or perhaps they will be exclusive to another market.

Little else is known about the updated Ioniq 5, but some rumblings suggest that an N Line package may arrive with this facelift to bridge the (stylistic) gap to the hotIoniq 5 N. Under the skin, the battery and motors are expected to get no more than minor tweaks, which is no surprise given how good the existing model is.

We hope to learn more in the coming weeks, but we expect nothing official before next year. The facelifted Ioniq 5 will likely be launched after Q1 2024, by which time Hyundai will likely have followed thelead of sister company Kiaby adopting Tesla's NACS connectors.
