High-Output Hurricane Inline-Six Will Be An Option For 2025 Ram 1500

Leaked /1 Comment

Luckily, it's more powerful and efficient than the Hemi V8.

It seems Ram may have leaked the details of the upcoming 1500 facelift. The leak was discovered by thePickup Truck Plus SUV TalkYouTube channel, which shared a link to anequipment listingfor the Ram 1500 Tungsten Crew Cab 4x4.

The first thing we need to address is when the facelift will arrive. According to the equipment listing, the facelift will be part of the 2025 model year updates. That means we can expect an unveiling in 2024, with the first units possibly rolling off the assembly line later in the year.

A possible reason for the delay can be found under the optional equipment listing. It clearly shows the high-output turbochargedinline-six Hurricane engine, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This is confirmation that thisbrilliant enginewill be joining the 1500 range but that it will not be standard fitment.

This tracks with whatCarBuzzwas told in an interview with Ram's former CEO in 2022. Mike Koval made it clear that the Hurricane enginecan produce more power and torquethan Ram's Hemi V8, but also that the latter would not be dumped because the demand for a V8 still exists. "And at the end of the day, the consumer wins, with a more efficient, more productive powertrain system," said Koval.

Ram will likely keep the engine structure as is, but with the Hurricane engine being an option. Currently, 1500 models are equipped with the well-known 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated Pentastar V6 as standard, while the famous 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is optional. On the top-spec Limited, the V8 is standard, where the Hurricane engine will likely get a foothold. Like the V8 is an option for lesser models, the Hurricane will probably be an option for high-end models.

Stellantis

We already know that the Tungsten part of the name shown below suggests a top-spec model that will slot in above the Limited but below the TRX. The previous generation essentiallybowed out using the Tungsten name, and we already have confirmation that the Tungsten trim willsit at the topof the incoming fully-electricRam 1500 REVrange.

If you look at the equipment listing, it makes sense. Ram will include a host of luxury features as standard, including dual wireless chargers, smartphone as a key, a head-up display, a power tailgate, a premium sound system, a wood-and-leather-wrapped steering wheel, and almost every advanced driving assistance system out there. The list also mentions Tungsten bodyside moldings and Tungsten badges.

There's not much left on the options list apart from the Hurricane engine, premium leather bucket seats, towing packages, and ventilated/massaging seats for the front and rear passengers.

As for the design, Ram might borrow some of the REV's design cues for a more homogenous lineup.
