GMC Hummer EV Heads North For Extreme Winter Testing

The rebornGMC Hummeris a big deal. Unlike its ancestor, this new rig is all-electric. It also happens to be General Motors' first-ever battery-electric truck. Needless to say, expectations are high and GMC doesn't want to let customers down. Fortunately, there's time until the first deliveries get underway. That's why the new Hummer is heading to northern Michigan for some extreme winter testing. The automaker says the truck is currently undergoing testing at its Milford Proving Grounds and has provided new images of advanced prototypes under construction and hitting the pavement.

"The GMC Hummer EV has arrived at GM's Milford Proving Grounds to continue validation tests and will head to northern Michigan to run through the team's grueling winter testing process," the automaker said. "We will document the journey and share updates in the coming weeks and months."

Granted these new images are not much to look at, but we're excited to see the Hummer battle the brutal winter weather conditions that blast northern Michigan. Initial demand for the Hummer EV proved to be high; all Edition 1 modelssold out within one hour, each carrying a price tag of $112,595.

Those who missed out can still purchase less powerful versions, such as the $99,995 EV3 and $89,995 EV2X. The cheapest Hummer EV, which won't arrive until spring 2024, costs $79,995. First Edition models will come with three electric motors producing more than 1,000 horsepower. Final torque figures are not yet available.
