Giant Sinkhole Swallows Eight Corvettes at National Museum

Some of the best-preserved and most adored classic Corvettes were eaten up by a giant sinkhole that opened under the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky on early Wednesday morning. Measuring about 40 feet wide and 25-30 feet deep, the hole swallowed six of the museum's own cars and two additional models on loan from GM. The greedy hole opened early in the morning hours, with no visitors in the museum and no casualties reported in the incident.

The sinkhole opened directly under the museum's yellow skydome, swallowing some rare models including a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and 2009 ZR1 "Blue Devil" on loan from General Motors; a 1962 Black Corvette; 1984 PPG Pace Car; 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette; 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette; 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette and a 2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette.
