Ford Transit Connect Gets Stunning Luxury Transformation

Tuning /8 Comments

This looks wild.

When you think of modified vehicles, or cars that are suitable for modification, you usually think of something that is already an excellent performer, whether it be off-roading or specializing in speed. So when you see a Jeep Wrangler with alift kitor a Corvette C8 with afancy exhaust, it makes sense. But in this crazy world, every little niche must be explored - including modifying aFord Transit. The modifications in theCarlex Designkit you see here (called the Custom X) aren't all that practical when it comes to fulfilling the Transit's original purpose, but boy do they make the boxy van stand out.

Carlex's Transit (known as the Tourneo in some markets) features an aggressive front bumper that molds itself into front arch extensions. The rear also gets some light widebody work while side sills complete the look of the profile. The rear bumper is also altered and features a new exhaust exit design with dual outlets, while the front boasts new upper and lower grilles and halogen light covers. Of course, no aftermarket kit is complete without some fresh wheels, so 18-inch rims by Carlex are fitted and wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport4 rubber - similar to what you get on aFord Mustang Shelby GT500.

The interior hasn't been overlooked either and is retrimmed with leather and Alcantara. The steering wheel has also been reshaped and finished in black leather with red or gray thread. Even the cluster gets some restyled dials. The result looks stunning if a little out of place and appears to be finished to a top-notch standard. Although no performance gains are claimed, Carlex even offers a "V8 exhaust sound system" that pumps fake noise into the cabin. So what does all this cost? At the current rate of exchange, the kit starts at approximately $7,900. Is that too much? We'll let you decide.
