Ford Mustang GTD's Paint Is Inspired By The Terminator

Car nerds are the best nerds.

The newMustang GTDis pretty darn sweet and just got a little bit sweeter as it turns out the supercar's incredible Polymimetic Gray paint is actually inspired by the Terminator. And no, we're not talking about the awesome versionof the fourth-generation Mustang, but the actual movie franchise, specificallyTerminator 2: Judgement Day.

Motor1spoke to Ford Chief Program Engineer for Future Model Year Performance Vehicles Greg Goodall who confirmed the paint's origin story. In the movie, the T-1000 is made from advanced mimetic polyalloy nanotechnology which allows it to morph into different shapes and people. Obviously, with car nerds being primarily nerds, we assume the crew behind the car came up with the name after a long night fueled by energy drinks, Spicy Cheetos, and a Ridley Scott marathon, but we can't deny that it's pretty awesome.

The paint looking like liquid metal is only one awesome aspect of this supercar though. As it's meant to be a road-legal race car, the GTD has become themost impressive Mustang ever produced. We're talking a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 800 hp, an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle, 50/50 weight distribution, and a one-of-a-kind pushrod suspension setup.

It may look like a Mustang, but it's probably easier to name all of the parts they still share than the ones that are different. Is this vehicle more Multimatic than Ford? More Ford than Multimatic? Who knows, but what we do know is we already believe it has a real chance of conquering a sub-7-minute Nurburgring lap. The thingsounds downright fierce, and we can't wait to see it fully unleashed on a track to get a true taste.

As awesome as theTerminator-inspired paint is, though, if it isn't your speed the company will paint your GTD in any color you like; the perks of a $300,000 supercar. We imagine we'll see some typical Mustang colors and maybe some variations of racing stripes.

If we can interject, though, we think there's another color that needs to see the body of a GTD. What we recommend is that some rich, classy, attractive, tasteful (did we mention attractive?) person out there who purchases one of these vehicles paints it in the ludicrously expensive andphenomenal Mystichrome paintof Terminator Mustang Cobras of old. A GTD in that color setting a lap record? Sublime.
