Company says it has a "strong desire" to build the high-performance compact.

Up till now, Ford has been quite wishy-washy in regards to confirming an upcoming RS performance version of its popular Focus compact, bringing the halo car of the former generation back to life in the new Focus hatchback. However, it seems the company is now highly determined to bring this hot-hatch to market as early as 2016, with officials telling Auto Express that "We have a rich heritage of RS cars, and we're not about to let any competitors overtake us in that respect."

According to various rumors, the 2016 Focus RS would incorporate the Mustang's 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which could be tuned to produce up to 350 horsepower. The car will ride on a weight-reducing front-wheel drive platform and electronic differential. With the company's "strong desire" to produce the exciting hatch, we expect to have more news about it shortly.
