Ford Bronco Turned Into A Living, Growing, Green Off-Roader

Off-Road /5 Comments

It's covered in grass, but not the kind you smoke.

Do your neighbors complain about your SUV not being green enough as they drive slowly by in their new EV?

Well, have we got a solution for you - chia sprouts. These sprouts are commonly used in Chia Pets as a replacement for fur or hair. The teams at Quake LED and DS18 Sound simply decided to do it on a larger scale, using a vehicle as the foundation for this living garden. It's what DS18 calls one of their Freak Show uilds.

TheFord Broncoyou see here is called the Chia Bronco, and yes, it is still growing. It's the greenest car we've ever seen, both literally and figuratively. First, it's obviously green, and secondly, it has Mother Nature growing out of it. Take that, eco-warriors.

To make the Chia Bronco, the team used double-sided tape and outdoor carpeting. Once this was done, it had a place to plant the seeds. Add some water, and nature does the rest. The Chia grass won't last for very long, as it requires heat and moisture. But Quake LED was careful not to harm the blue paint underneath. From the moment the car was covered in Chia paste, it took just four days to sprout fully. It's not nearly as advanced asAudi's new color-changing paint, but a lot cooler.

The car is still fully functional, but it can only drive slow for short distances. The Bronco is not known for its aerodynamic properties, and Chia is not known for its strength.

It also requires a lot of upkeep. Unlike a regular car, it has to be wrapped at night to keep any heat locked in. Sometimes, Quaked LED even covers it in light for extra warmth. The team behind the build hopes that it lasts long enough to make an appearance at a few more automotive shows. It's one way to make a Ford Bronco stand out because, as we predicted, it was the star of this year's SEMA Show. Ford brought a total ofsix unique Broncos, not to mention a variety of upgraded private cars.

Not wanting to be outdone by Ford, Mopar also brought a selection ofupgraded productsto the show. If you want to see one of our personal favorites, check out theCorvette CF1.
