Ferrari Purosangue SUV Spied Disguised As A Maserati

It's no secret that Ferrari is entering the super SUV segment with the upcomingPurosangue. An SUV with a Ferrari badge would have been unthinkable a few years ago, but the Italian automaker has to respond to the competition. By taking on the Urus and DBX, Ferrari hopes the Purosangue will steal a slice of the performance SUV pie from Lamborghini and Aston Martin.

While the Purosangue isn't expected to arrive until 2022 to fill the void left by the GTC4Lusso being axed, prototype testing has already begun. Earlier this month, video footage capturedFerrari's first SUV on the movetackling snowy conditions in Sweden. Unfortunately, the footage was shot from a distance, but these latest spy shots give us a much clearer look.

This latest Purosangue prototype is still wrapped in camouflage and appears to be based on a modifiedMaserati Levantetest mule. It appears to share the same grille and headlights as the Levante, but its underpinnings will be borrowed from the Roma GT. It's also still riding noticeably closer to the ground than the Levante.

While the production model will have variable ground clearance, Ferrari won't want to compromise the responsive handling the Italian automaker is renowned for. In other words, don't expect it to have the same off-roading prowess as a Land Rover Defender. Being a Ferrari, the Purosangue will also be significantly more powerful than the Levante.
