Ferrari 375-Plus Goes for $18.3M at Goodwood

1950's Ferraris regularly sell for seven-figure sums in auctions, and it won't be long before the norm is eight figures. This particular piece of automotive royalty, a 1954 Ferrari 375-Plus, just sold for over £10 million (around $18.3M at today's rates) at the Bonhams auction held at the Goodwood FOS. The premium paid for the vintage Fezza owes to its racing heritage. Jose Froilan Gonzalez drove the 375-Plus to victory at Silverstone in 1954, and the sports car also raced at Le Mans and the Mille Miglia.

Unlike stock 375 models, the Plus variant was only sold to the public at the end of its production run. Each came with coachwork by Carrozzeria Pinin Farina, and had an extra 400 cc, increasing the V12 to 4.9 liters. Described as "one of the great jewels in the whole history of Ferrari," the 375-Plus joins an elite band of cars to sell for over $10 million. The exception for now, but these prices will soon become the rule.
