Father Of The McLaren F1 Reveals Plans For Two Electric SUVs

Industry News /3 Comments

There's a lot of corporate restructuring happening but the foundation is there.

Gordon Murray is no longer the CEO of his own company. Murray, legendary designer ofthe McLaren F1,反而会变得e Gordon Murray Automotive's (GMA) Executive Chairman. In essence, what that does is ensure the man who has built the company is still directly responsible for the cars it puts out. According to the brand, Murray is now "responsible for all product development and design," while Philip Lee is now CEO of GMA.

Additionally, the company, set to producetwo new mainstream electric SUVs, is now split into two divisions: Gordon Murray Automotive (think T.50s and the like) and Gordon Murray Technology. The latter is comprised of Gordon Murray Design and Gordon Murray Electronics. These are the branches that will be helping to build these two electric SUVs, one of which will likely rival theLotus Eletre.

While GMA does say that it is working on these two SUVs, it will only specify where one is going. And 'specify' is frankly an overstatement. "Gordon Murray Technology is already developing two advanced all-electric SUVs, one for a major car manufacturer, and is in advanced discussions with global automotive businesses for future projects."

Murray, 76, is thrilled, saying the company is in a "strong position" with its slew of "world-beating supercars" (therecently-debuted T.33among them), bringing about "unprecedented expansion since 2020."

Apparently, GMA is of the mind that it can't build "world-beating supercars" forever. Murray says that instead, the future lies with the newly-founded Technology branch. "Despite the success of GMA, our major growth opportunity now lies with Gordon Murray Technology."

Still, Murray will have a hand in the company's electrified projects and has said so himself. In addition to the two SUVs, Murray and Co. are also working on something called iStream. iStream is effectively a fresh, clean-sheet take on the way that cars are built. The process looks to, as the name suggests, streamline the entire process to make it more ecologically friendly and more efficient.

While the company's statement didn't have much to say about it, the GMA team is looking to come to the US. When, or even where, is still very unclear. All the brand said was that it was "currently looking at facilities in the US," which means that Hennessey had better watch out.
