Everything You Need To Know About The Lexus LF

It couldn't look more different from the dated LX.

TheLexus LXis the Japanese company's competent but aging flagship SUV. Although it's built like a rock, the time has come for Lexus to offer customers something more modern in this segment. Last year, that something appeared to be a new SUVcalled the LQ. However, more recent rumors indicate that the sporty SUV will in fact be known as theLF. Whatever it's called, it will feature dramatic styling from theLF-1 Limitless Conceptrevealed in 2018. Of course, concepts are almost always toned down for the production version and that's exactly what our render artist envisioned here. As you can see, the LF's design is quite a dramatic departure from the bulky LX we have now.

It has a much lower, broader stance and is likely to be more of a high-performance flagship than the LX, which is a superb off-roader. In front, it is linked to other Lexus models like the RX with its huge spindle grille and sharply angled headlights. It has large wheels which remind one of other coupe-like SUVs such as the Audi Q8. Speaking of coupes, the LF is expected to have a much less boxy roofline which means it looks far better than the LX but is unlikely to be as practical. While the LF-1 concept had flush door handles, our render has traditional door handles. As for the powertrain, the LF will have to pack a mean punch if it is to match vehicles like the Audi Q8,Porsche Cayenne Coupe, and BMW X6.

The latest rumors indicate that a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 660 horsepower will be used along with a 3.5-liter V6 hybrid producing a more modest 354 hp. At a substantial 206 inches in length, the LF is expected to ride on the same TNGA-L platform shared with the LS, the company's largest sedan. Both two- and three-row configurations will be offered but it remains to be seen how much rear headroom can be retained with that sloping roofline. When it arrives, the LF is expected to be a six-figure vehicle so we anticipate an interior filled with the latest technologies and typically lavish Lexus materials. Along with theelectric LF-Z Concept, the future of Lexus SUVs looks bright.
