Drop-Top Golf R Convertible Spied on the Road

Volkswagen is planning several versions of their next-generation Golf.

We've already seen Volkswagen testing several variants of their next-generation Golf, such as the stock, GTI and, most recently, the R version of their hatchback. Our instinctive spy photographers have been vigilant in their pursuit of all things 2014 Golf and they have returned to us with a new batch of photos showing off the next R Convertible variant of the slick hatch. The Golf R Convertible seen here in these photos is a completely uncovered VW test mule.

R badges can be seen on both the front and back of the drop-top next generation model. The front-end features an R bumper along with integrated LED daytime running lights while we can clearly see bigger wheels and bigger brakes. The side sills are more pronounced while there is a spoiler hanging off the trunk lid. Differing from the GTI are more-rounded and much larger exhaust pipes sticking out of the back. We should know more about the next generation Golf R Convertible as it gets closer to production sometime next year.
