Downloadable Graphics Are Coming To Your Corvette

Just this week we came up with an idea fordownloadable digital gauge clustersthat would allow customers to view retro styles from classic vehicles. We thought the2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupewould be a perfect candidate for such a feature because it could digitally emulate the gauges from the C4 Corvette. As it turns out, this concept could become a reality according to a recent trademark filing from General Motors.

On November 10, 2021, GM filed a trademark for the term "DASHPAPER" with the USPTO. The filing covers "downloadable digital graphics for in-vehicle displays." Doesn't that sound a lot like our idea? We sure hope so.

We aren't taking too much credit here, since GM's patent filing predates our idea by over a month. However, we would be thrilled if Dashpaper ends up being what we imagined. The trademark verbiage is fairly vague, so there's a chance GM has other intentions with this feature that have nothing to do with gauges. Of course, there's also a chance the filing goes nowhere and never reaches a production vehicle.

GM vehicles already offer a suite of useful features under the GM Marketplace app suite, includingReese's Book Clubfor audiobooks andYelp for restaurant reservations. Being able to download new icons, menu themes, and gauge designs could be the latest addition for GM Marketplace.
