Demand For Fisker's Oddball Ocean EV Is Higher Than Anyone Predicted

It may be looking at building more than 50,000 cars per year, with huge knock-on effects.

Fisker recently announced that its projected production numbers for the Ocean may increase in 2024 due to strong global demand.

TheFisker OceanOne Edition sold out in 30 days, despite the companydemanding customers pay an additional $5,000over and above the initial $250 deposit. This additional payment was essentially a downpayment on customers who wanted to get a First Edition rather than a normal model.

After taking deposits for the One Edition, Fisker opened up the books for the Sport, Ultra, and Extreme. The Sport is the base model, while the Ultra is considered mid-spec. The allocation for these models sold out earlier in August.

As of today, Fisker has 58,000 reservations, and it projects this number will increase to 80,000 by the end of the year.

“我们看到全球金融中间人的热情ker Ocean is nothing short of humbling. With our partners at Magna, test vehicles are rolling off the line at the carbon-neutral manufacturing plant in Graz, where we are working diligently on expanding production numbers beyond the current projection of 50,000 units per year," said CEO and Chairman of Fisker, Henrik Fisker.

Production for the Ocean will kick off in November 2022, and deliveries of the One will occur by the end of September 2023. Fisker cars are currently being assembled in Graz, Austria, by the same firm responsible for the production of the Mercedes G-Class, Fenyr SuperSport, Toyota Supra, and BMW Z4 among others.

"We are also exploring expanding operations to meet this growing demand, including considering manufacturing in the United States. And with our disciplined spending, strong cash position, extraordinary operational flexibility, strong relationships with our suppliers, and a diversified, high line-of-sight potential revenue stream for the first year, we're full speed ahead on all fronts. I'm looking forward to seeing the very latest pre-production Fisker Ocean vehicles come off the line when I visit the Magna plant in September."

Rumors of Fisker producing cars in the US go back at least a year. The all-new entry-level Fisker PEAR will bebuilt alongside the Lordstown Enduranceby Foxconn.

As a reminder, the Fisker range now consists of the all-wheel-drive Extreme and Ultra and the front-wheel-drive Sport.

Fisker will offer two battery packs. The Touring Range battery comes with an EPA-estimated driving range of 250 miles, while the Hyper Range battery takes it up to 350 miles.

The entry-level model retails for just $37,499, making it one of the cheapest EVs on sale. Austria does not have a free-trade agreement with the USA, which meansthe Ocean will not receive a tax creditunder the new Inflation Reduction Act. However, Fisker says that it is contemplating US production to keep up with demand, which could bring welcome tax rebates for American buyers.

This base spec model still has loads of luxury features and a vegan interior and will likely be the biggest seller in the range.

However, one must wonder how long a customer will have to wait. With the first edition models only arriving in 13 months, how much longer would one have to wait for an entry-level model?
