Czinger 21C Unveiled As 1,250-HP Hybrid With V8 Power

The hypercar's 1,250-hp output will come from a twin-turbo V8 and two electric motors.

Earlier this week, we reported on the upcoming Czinger 21C, an American hypercar capable of completing the 0-62 mph sprint in aridiculous 1.9 seconds, easily making it one of the quickest cars on the planet. We knew that it made use of a hybrid powertrain, but Czinger hadn't yet provided the particulars behind the system that provides such neck-snapping acceleration. We can now confirm the juicy details.

The hybrid system makes use of a 2.88-liter flat crank twin-turbocharged V8 and two electric motors. The V8 is mid-mounted while each electric motor powers a front wheel, with torque vectoring applied to make full use of the system's 1,250-hp output.

According to Czinger, you'll only encounter the 21C's red line at a positively stratospheric 11,000 rpm. And what about the transmission? It's a seven-speed automated manual. A new video just released by the brand is an opportunity to hear the angry V8's engine note as the 21C is pushed hard on a track. The latest information also reveals a curb weight of 2,756 pounds - to put that into some kind of perspective, it's about 400 pounds heavier than aMazda MX-5 Miata, but the 21C has 590 percent more power than the Japanese roadster.

The 21C's other performance figures are just as phenomenal. A quarter-mile time of 8.1 seconds, 0-186-0 mph in 15 seconds, and 0-248 mph-0 (400 km/h) in 29 seconds put it into the conversation with the likes ofBugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. Unlike that car, the 21C will be assembled right here in Los Angeles.

A lightweight track version will be offered, too. It'll have the same power output but will be 71 lbs lighter than the regular model and capable of over 1,700 lbs of downforce at 155 mph. The lithium-titanate batteries are always ready to supply power thanks to a crank-driven generator and starter system.

Production of the 21C will be limited to just 80 units. The hypercar's official debut will take place at next month's 2020 Geneva International Motor Show, where founder and CEO Kevin Czinger will introduce us to the exciting new brand. We can't wait to see what kind of impact the American start-up will have.
