Classic Alfa Romeo With Ferrari Engine Is A Labor Of Love

Tuning /5 Comments

We've seen some crazy engine swaps, but this one takes the cake.

We've all dreamed of being able topull off that crazy car project, but very few actually go out there and do it.Home Built By Jeff, an Australian YouTuber, is one such person and is busy building a Ferrari-powered 105-series Alfa Romeo. The 105/115 series was based on a shortened floorplan borrowed from the originalGiulia.

It's been a long process (the latest video is Part 192), and it seems as if the car still isn't complete. But building something this unique takes time and is part of the fun for hands-on people like Jeff. In his latest video, the owner shows the latest roadblock he needs to overcome.

The Ferrari V8, lifted from a 360 Modena, appears too tall for the engine bay. As a result, the hood won't close, and the solution isn't as simple as it seems. The engine can't be moved down or backward, making a bulge for the existing Perspex cover impossible. So what to do?

There's very little wiggle room, so his only option is to cut or sand down a section of the plenum chambers to get the hood to shut. Of course, Jeff will do his utmost to make this neat and tidy.

Connecting the dry sump oil tank to the engine and several other small tasks still need to be done. While trying to fit the bash plate onto the undercarriage, catastrophe strikes when Jeff realizes he inadvertently damaged his car. The Alfarrari was on a workshop lift and was pushed too far, forcing the rear of the roof into a pillar on the garage ceiling.

A nasty dent has been left behind, and while Jeff is visibly frustrated, he presses on with his tasks.

If you're fascinated by builds like this, the rest of the video is worth a watch. We'd even suggest going back a few years and watching the process from scratch.

But if you'd rather not do that, you'll be pleased to know the Alfarrari was completed in time for its big reveal at the World Time Attack Challenge 2023, hosted in Sydney over the past weekend. We expect a final video to document the reveal and the engine start-up in the coming days.

This is one of thecrazier engine swap buildswe've encountered, but we think it's a good match. Classic Alfa styling and a (relatively) modern Ferrari V8 are a great combo. As a reminder, the 3.6-liter Tipo F131 V8 produced 395 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque in its standard configuration.

It's not the only Ferrari engine swap we've seen this year. One individual decided to drop a V8 Ferrari motor into his Subaru rally car, andthe end result was excellent.
