SP383 EFI is a classic "stoker" with a modern twist.

Looking to swap your dub's engine out for something bigger and brawnier?Chevrolet Performancehas no shortage of crate engines to offer. And now it's rolled out another.

Celebrating 65 years of Chevy "small-block" V8 development, new SP383 EFI builds upon the classic "stroker" engine with a modern twist. It still displaces a massive 383 cubic inches (or 6.27 liters), but as the EFI designation might have tipped you off, this one includes modern electronic fuel injection. That helps it produce an impressive 450 horsepower and 436 lb-ft of torque – almost as much as a newCamaroSS.

The new crate motor is based on the existing ZZ6, and carries over its high-flow, fast-burn cylinder heads and modern valvetrain, but features an extra-long 3.800-inch stroke to help it build more torque. The electronically controlled, port-style fuel injection system is plumbed right into the intake manifold, with a throttle body where the carburetor would be on older engines.

"Chevrolet Performance's newest crate engine builds on a pioneering legacy of engine innovation," said Chevrolet Performance director Kris Mayer. "It also expands our unmatched crate engine portfolio, offering customers opportunities to build the project vehicle of their dreams."

Chevy will offer the new SP383 EFI in two versions. The Deluxe model includes a throttle body, distributor, damper, and flexplate, while the Turn Key version includes all that plus an air-cleaner, front-end accessory drive, PCV valve, and starter. Both come with a plug-and-play engine controller and harness.

With the addition of this new motor, Chevy now offers nearly 50 crate engine packages, including small-block, big-block, LS, LSX, and LT engines. And with its CARB-certified E-ROD packages, it's the only manufacturer able to offer regulation-compliant crate engines in all 50 states.
