Tom Cruise hasworked with amazing vehiclesthroughout his career, owning tasteful cars off-camera, including a1984 Nissan 300ZX SCCA race car. One of the cars that caught his attention recently is renowned automotive designer and TV host Chip Foose's P-32.

Foose designed the P-32 based on a 32 Ford Highboy Roadster with modifications inspired by a Curtiss P40 Warhawk. This means the iconic hot rod features aircraft-inspired styling, including seats from a Boeing B-17 Bomber. No wonder why theTop Gun star, who is also a licensed pilot in real life, took notice of the build.

Some of the most apparent design cues borrowed from the aircraft include the windshield with exposed riveting and the nose cone minus the propellers. The vehicle even boasts exhausts reminiscent of the P40 Warhawk, which look natural as a hot rod.

Specs-wise, the P-32 gets front and rear 1939 Lincoln brakes supplied by Andy Wallin, 18-inch wheels wrapped in motorcycle tires at the front and Firestone tires built by Coker 700R18 at the rear, a 1935 Chevy grille, aircraft seatbelts, and an aluminum hood built by Marcel's Custom Metal Shaping.

The exact horsepower figure was not mentioned, but the mill with 292 cubic inches of displacement was said to make around 120 hp from the factory. Since the V12 left limited room for the steering, Chip installed a steering box from a 1953Chevrolet Corvette.

Foose was fond of his P-32 hot rod build, so much so that he refused to sell it to Cruise. However, there is still a way for the high-acclaimed actor to own the car; Foose wants Cruise to trade his P-51 Mustang, the fighter aircraft the latter flew at the end ofTop Gun: Maverick.
