Carbon Hybrid Wheels Were Hiding All Over The Goodwood Festival Of Speed

Several of the breathtaking vehicles on display were shod with these lightweight wheels.

At this past weekend's 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, several of the vehicles were sporting Dymag's carbon hybrid wheel technology.

The British firm supplied its industry-leading wheels to numerous show cars, including Gunther Werks'one-of-one Bubblegum commission, a pink-painted beauty based on thePorsche 911(993). Other cars shod with Dymag's lightweight wheels include the BAC Mono R, theRadford Type 62-2 Pikes Peak, and several supercars from the experts at Lanzante. The firm unveiled McLarens, Porsches, and a very special Pagani.

These wheels are as much as 50% lighter than regular alloy wheels, reducing unsprung mass and inertia. So not only do they look good, but they should also contribute to enhanced handling.

Dymag explains that the improved handling comes thanks to the reduced gyroscopic force, which also means less steering effort is required.

But aren't carbon fiber wheels notoriously fragile? They are, but remember, Dymag's wheels are not made of pure carbon fiber; they're a hybrid. This means they're not only stronger and more durable than a full carbon fiber rim but even alloy wheels too. And it's not just for hardcore performance cars like thePagani Huayra Revolucion.

The weight savings can improve the range of electric vehicles, although justifying their undoubtedly high cost is a little more difficult when you're talking about an everyday EV than it is when talking about a high-performance supercar.

The wheels also reduce NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness), which is important in any car.

Dymag was the first company in the world to commercialize carbon hybrid wheels. As such, it remains at the forefront of this niche sector and continues to develop the concept further. The UK-based brand currently offers a lineup of carbon hybrid wheels sized 18 to 23 inches and has plans to introduce 24- and 25-inch versions later this year.

"Our latest carbon hybrid wheels bring significant benefits to all high-end cars, including EVs, minimizing weight, optimizing performance, and boasting aesthetic advantages too," said CEO Tom De Lange. "BAC, Gunther Werks, Lanzante, and Radford are some of the most innovative thinkers in the automotive industry, and we're proud to support them with our technology."
