Cadillac Escalade is Keeping its V8

Rumor /91 Comments

Because there are still those who don't give a crap about their gas bill.

There have been a few rumors lately in regards to the future of the Cadillac Escalade. First off, the SUV itself isn't going anywhere. It's still a huge seller for GM. But what it does have is a V8 that, let's face it, isn't exactly the most fuel efficient engine out there. Still, Cadillac is anxious for the Escalade to have even greater appeal. That's why, in a new report from Automotive News, Cadillac is seriously considering to add not one, but two new engine options for the Escalade.

It's not official just yet, but it's very likely the CTS Vsport's twin-turbo V6 will soon be available for an even sportier Escalade. With its 420 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, Cadillac is aware that it'll need to increase output in order to make this a realistic sporty variant above the V8 model. The second engine that's also being considered is a turbo diesel V6. However, that'll be aimed at the European market and is unlikely to be offered in the US. So why keep the V8 at all? It's a niche that still finds plenty of buyers. And now that the Lincoln Navigator dropped the V8 entirely, this market segment is now owned by Caddie.
