Brabus Unveils Bullet-Proof Mercedes-AMG G63

The full name is actually the Invicto VR6 Plus ERV, and is available in three variants classed as the Pure, Luxury, and Mission derivatives. The Invicto has been generously upgraded inside and out, with the most noticeable difference being an angry body kit that could only come from the design halls of Brabus. But it's more than just a kit, as the panels have been upgraded with 3D-printed body armor. Dubbed the Invicto Shelter Cell, the body upgrades afford the G-Class VR6 ballistic protection status, making the SUV fully blast-proof, just like theBMW X5 Protection VR6.

'ERV' stands for 'Explosion Resistant Vehicle'. However, the styling can be tailored based on the chosen trim, with Pure models deviating as little as possible from the standard G-Class, while Luxury and Mission models possess more 'out there' styling.

The various trims allow buyers to pick various equipment ranges too, equipping items such as rear entertainment screens, bespoke interior lighting, roof rails, night vision, and even a fire extinguishing system.

Thanks to the 3D printing technology used for the armor plating, the G-Class only puts on 2,204 lbs compared to the standard SUV (a respectable amount considering the levels of protection added). Naturally, the suspension has been upgraded to accommodate the extra weight, with reinforced framework ensuring the driving dynamics live up to the Brabus name. Bigger brakes now comprise 15.8-inch brake rotors up front with six-piston calipers, and the wheels are reinforced and wrapped in a Brabus-developed run-flat system to ensure nothing can stop the Invicto.

The extra weight needs more power, though, so Brabus has added the B40S-800 performance package to the G63, upgrading the 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 from 577 hp and 627 lb-ft to 789 hp and 737 lb-ft. But even with all the extra power, 0-60 mph takes a fairly sluggish 8.2 seconds, while the Invicto can reach a top speed limited to 130 mph.
