Luxury /3 Comments

Brabus took the cream of the luxury crop and gave it big wheels, bigger horsepower ratings, and a ton of attitude.

You get luxury and performance, and then you get Brabus. This German high-performance automotive aftermarket tuning company specializes in turning the best that Mercedes-Benz and Maybach have to offer, and making it even better. We've seen someinsane Brabus buildsin our time, and our favorites have to be theirresponsibly overpowered luxury SUVs, especially its range of'900' beasts. The latest Brabus weapon to wear this badge of honor is based on the highly ostentatiousMercedes-Maybach GLS. The Maybach GLS-based Brabus 900 has seen extensive alterations to its exterior, and interior, and now packs a 900-metric-horsepower V8 punch that could maim a military Hummer by simply cold starting.

Brabus starts out by completely changing the exterior look of the Maybach GLS 600. It does so by adding a set of magnificent 24-inch hi-tech Platinum Edition forged wheels wrapped in SportContact 6 high-performance tires and a fully custom carbon-fiber exterior body kit, including a custom radiator grille and Shadow Gray glazing that perfectly matches the black exterior paint. At the rear, a set of rectangular Brabus exhaust tips proudly bark at passersby through a carbon diffuser. The 900 is lowered by one inch thanks to special recalibration of the air suspension system.

The interior is completely reupholstered with soft and breathable black and cream-colored leather in a shell-shaped pattern. This theme runs throughout the door trim and other interior pieces. Backseat passengers even get Alcantara pillowcases. The rest of the interior features a ton of carbon fiber and aluminum trimmings.

Under the hood, the standard twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine gets a capacity increase to 4.4 liters thanks to a larger cylinder bore, and a lengthened stroke of 3.9 inches. The engine is also fitted with a set of forged pistons and a balanced billet crankshaft. Two high-pressure fuel pumps deliver gas to this beast and a set of larger turbochargers boosting 1.4 bar deliver titanic amounts of air into the combustion chamber. The exhaust fumes run through a fully custom, EURO 6D ISC-FCM emissions approved Brabus exhaust system with various sound level settings. The end result is a large family SUV with a power output of 888 hp (SAE) and 922 lb-ft of torque. The end result is a heavyweight ultra-luxury SUV that can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in only 4.2 seconds and top out at a ridiculous 200 mph - electronically limited, of course. The best part? Brabus covers its engineering work with a three-year/62,000-mile warranty.
