BMW X7 M60i Gets Carbon-Fiber Body Kit And More Power

The kit is worth about as much as a new 2 Series Coupe.

Larte Design has revealed a new performance carbon body kit for theBMW X7M60i, one of the German manufacturer's most luxurious SUVs, and it makes an already boldly styled vehicle stand out even more.

This is not the first tuner to develop a body kit for the big X7 -Mansory designed its widebody X7, and Manhart applied itssignature black and gold finishto the three-row SUV.

However, Larte Design's kit is one of the first to be applied to the X7 since it underwent a dramatic facelift last year and gained a split-headlight design. The overhaul includes a black upper body, 23-inch wheels, and the gaudy carbon add-ons that seem to be a prerequisite for body kits these days.

The X7 featured here is finished in Frozen Pure Grey Metallic, a $5,500 option on the stock X7 M60i. Matte black on the upper body and a glossy accent line was added, and Larte says that this two-tone effect places its X7 alongside other high-end cars like theRolls-Royce Cullinan, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, and BMW's own 7 Series - all of which can be had with aspecial two-tone finish.

We're not sure that the typical discerning Cullinan customer would find this X7's large front splitter or vented hood tasteful, but these changes endow the BMW with a very aggressive countenance. It also has a different front bumper treatment and Larte's signature "teeth" under the headlights.

The side view features carbon fiber mirror caps that can be had in either a classic or M-style design with a side fin. There are two-piece side sills, and the X7 stands on forged lightweight wheels ranging from 21 to 23 inches. These wheels have bolts with carbon blades that Larte says look particularly cool when the vehicle is in motion. There is a substantial premium for these wheels, though; the 22-inch set starts at 8,000 euros, or about $8,800. For some perspective, the stock X7 M60i can be upgraded with 23-inch BMW Individual V-spoke bi-color light alloy wheels for $1,300.

At the back, Larte added sizable fins in the center of the diffuser with side trims that can house optional winglets. The tuner claims that many X7 owners considered the stock diffuser too plain; this kit solves that issue. There are also uniquely shaped tailpipes and a new spoiler above the tailgate.

Overall, the Larte performance aerodynamic tuning kit contains 12 parts, which are handmade in 100% carbon fiber. Larte has not compromised the X7's stock specifications: the front bumper doesn't affect ground clearance, and cruise control and parking sensors function as intended from their original locations.

To give you a better idea of costs, the carbon hood costs €7,980 (around $8,800), the front bumper splitter is €3,900 ($4,300), the rear diffuser is €4,258 ($4,700), and the spoiler is €2,780 ($3,050). With every carbon extra included, you can expect to pay over $35k for the kit.

Larte didn't mention any interior upgrades, but it tuned the big twin-turbocharged V8 to make another 39 horsepower, taking the total to around 562 hp.

Larte Design has company offices in Dusseldorf, Germany, and California, USA. There are around 30 international accredited dealers and installers.
