BMW To Unleash All-Electric Assault On 2023 Munich Motor Show

The new 5 Series PHEV will be introduced alongside the i7 Protection, iX5 Hydrogen SUV, and more.

The BMW Group will introduce several new vehicles at Munich's upcoming 2023 IIA Mobility show. While none of the cars are new, the German brand will debut new iterations of its latest models. This includes the new5 Seriesplug-in hybrid, the BMW i7 Protection, the world'sfirst armored all-electric luxury sedan.

The introduction of the plug-in hybrid 5er will complete the lineup. Two models will be offered and powered by four- or six-cylinder gasoline engines. The new electric motor is integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission and works with the engine to produce impressive power figures.

In the 550e xDrive Sedan, customers can look forward to combined outputs of 483 horsepower. The lesser 530e Sedan produces around 295 horsepower. BMW says the 550e can cover 49 - 56 miles on electric power alone, while the 530e manages 54 - 63 miles. However, this was c一个lculated on the WLTP cycle, so we can expect more realistic figures when these vehicles reach the United States.

BMW has developed a pre-gearing stage for the electric motor that allows the 206 lb-ft of torque to be increased to 332 lb-ft at the transmission input. The automaker says it can boost torque in a way usually only possible with a larger electric drive unit.

The 5 Series PHEV models utilize a 19.4 kWh (usable) lithium-ion battery that has been cleverly positioned within the underbody. Not only does this lower the center of gravity - improving handling and dynamics - but it also benefits the trunk space. There are 18.4 cubic feet of packing space up for grabs, which is more than enough for most.

Mini will also use the event to publically unveil the new Mini Cooper and Countryman, completely new models designed一个s EVs from the ground up. BMW will also take the opportunity to showcase its varied range of electric vehicles, including the i4 Gran Coupe, the iX SUV, and the iX1 crossover, which isn't sold in the United States.

Aside from traditional electric vehicles, BMW has plans to display the hydrogen-powered iX5 at the Munich-based event.

While BMW has a wide range of eco-friendly electric vehicles - anduses sustainable manufacturing processes- the company CEO Oliver Zipse still believes EVs aren't the only solution to environmental issues. That's why the company is experimenting with the hydrogen iX5 SUV and plans to bring一个small batch to the United States.

With 396 hp, the iX5 needs less than six seconds to reach 62 mph in complete silence. The top speed of 112 mph is less remarkable, but with a WLTP-estimated range of 313 miles, the luxury SUV should be able to travel long distances without needing a top-up.

Another exciting vehicle that will appear is the BMW CE 02, a compact electric scooter aimed at urban city dwellers who want something cool to drive. The IIA Mobility show will run between 5 - 10 September 2023.
