Best Look Yet At 2021 Mercedes S-Class

With the reveal of the all-new2021 Mercedes S-Classfast approaching, Mercedes has released the final teaser for the redesigned luxury sedan before its big debut on September 2. While previous teasers showcased thehigh-tech cabinandinnovative safety features, this final teaser previews the elegant exterior in a new teaser sketch. As with most concept sketches released by automakers, the proportions are exaggerated with massive wheels and a more pronounced sloping roofline than the production model.

Coincidentally, our spies have also caught Mercedes performing some final testing with a pre-production prototype, giving us a more accurate look at the final production body than the teaser sketch. While previous prototypes were fully camouflaged, this one is practically naked. Covering its modesty are a few thin stripes of camouflage applied to the rear end and the front headlights.

At the front, the new S-Class sports full matrix LED headlights with a slimmer shape than the current model's and a larger grille. There are no door handles on the teaser sketch, but the pre-production prototype is fitted with pop-out door handles that give the profile a sleeker appearance. LED taillights with a new horizontal design adorn the rear end. It may not be obvious looking at the prototype's proportions, but the new S-Class will be slightly longer than the outgoing car, with a 1.57-inch longer wheelbase.

In the US, the 2021 Mercedes S-Class will be offered with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque in the entry-level S500, with an EQ Boost mild-hybrid system adding an extra 21 hp and 184 lb-ft.
