Bentley Speed Six Revived As Legendary Continuation Series

Classic Cars /Comments

The latest Continuation Series model is just as exclusive as the last.

A couple of months ago, Bentley announced that it would bebringing some very special modelsto the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Among them, the iconic Speed Six. What we didn't know at the time was that this was something of a teaser. See, towards the end of 2020, Bentleycompleted the construction of a continuation modelbased on the pre-war 4½ liter Blower of 1929, and that car was such a resounding success that the Crewe-based automaker decided to start another continuation project. As you can guess, the focus this time will be on the Speed Six and just like the Blower Continuation Series, just 12 new Speed Six recreations will be built.

Mulliner, the oldest coachbuilder in the world, will undertake the daunting task to make identical recreations of the cars that won Le Mans in 1929 and 1930. "The most successful Bentley racing car of its era, the Speed Six is regarded as one of the most important Bentleys in history" and one of the first cars that could be considered a grand tourer, that is to say, a fast car that is still comfortable and luxurious and "capable of covering huge distances with ease." This run of 12 Speed Six models was officially announced today at Goodwood, where Bentley is showing off a number of enticing machines, including 10 turbocharged Bentleys.

As you can imagine, these perfect recreations of cars that are almost a century old won't come cheap. Each of the 12 examples costs £1.5 million, or approximately $1.84 million at the time of writing. Despite that, Bentley also announced that all are already spoken for, which means that Bentley's most well-heeled customers were obviously told about the second Continuation Series long ago. These lucky individuals will get to feel what a 6½-liter straight-six from the pre-war era feels like, with all of its 200 horsepower allowing for a top speed of 125 mph. If you're bummed that you missed out on this, Bentley has justrevealed the Mulliner GTtoo, an uber-luxurious take on the already excellentContinental GT.
