Barely-Driven Ford RS200 Evo Is A Group B Unicorn

It's done approximately 500 miles since new.

This is not the first time that we've lamented the death of theFocus RS, but seeing a Ford RS200 Evolution up for sale just reminds us that Ford's rally-inspired glory days are well and truly in the rearview mirror. The RS200, in particular, is one of thoserare and fascinating Fordsthat you don't come across too often, although we did find a modifiedone with over 700 horsepowerpop up for sale last year. That car was listed for $200,000, so what is an original model worth? According to this listing on Bring A Trailer, the answer is "at least $250,000."

The 1986 RS200 Evolution you see here is one of just 24 examples ever built and was imported to California from Norway in 2017. As the pictures of this pristine rally special show, it's finished in white with a gray fabric interior and a red-leather-wrapped steering wheel. Before this car was imported to the US in 2018, it had its 2.1-liter turbo-four rebuilt in England. The odometer shows just 800 kilometers (approximately 500 miles), and no reason is given for the rebuild, but presumably, it was just a preventative measure since the race-derived engine was capable of around 600 hp when it left the factory.

Unlike the example we spoke of earlier, this RS200 Evo appears to be all-original. The OEM 16-inch Speedline split wheels are wrapped in Falken FK451 tires. The engine seems to be pretty healthy too, as you can hear in the above video, although we doubt anyone will be using a rare and expensive classic like this to pop down to the shops for bread and milk. Speaking of expense, the current bid on the car is $250,000 with 11 days to go before bidding closes. However, with some mint examples being valued at between $475,000 and $675,000 by reputable auction house RM Sotheby's, there's a good chance that the selling price could double.
