Audi Teases Wild-Looking Concept Car

This will be Audi's vision of what a compact car could look like in the future.

Next week marks the start of the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, taking place at the same time as the NY Auto Show. Like many other automakers, Audi has announced what we can expect to see at the event. One of the highlights will be theAudi AI:me concept showing what a compact car could look like in the future. The show car will offer a spacious interior fitted with a wide range of high-tech features for communication, entertainment, and relaxation. It will also be capable of level 4 autonomous driving.

Audi has previously shown a few design sketches of the futuristic concept car, but now the automaker has released a new image teasing the real thing. While Audi's current design language can be seen in the closeup shot of the headlight, the headlight and the body surrounding it are covered in striking diamond-shaped dimples. We can also see the car's pod-like shape. Clearly, this is going to be a very wacky-looking concept car, so don't expect it to go into production.

In addition to the AI:me concept, Audi will also debut the Q2L e-tron at the Shanghai Auto Show, a stretched version of thesmall Q2 SUV这是1.3英寸长于the standard version for additional rear legroom. An electric motor on the front axle produces 134 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque powertrain, while a 38 kWh battery provides up to 165 miles on a single charge, as per the local homologation standards. Unsurprisingly, the long wheelbase version of the electric SUV will only be sold in China. It will be built at Audi's factory in Foshan, with deliveries starting this summer.

"With both the Audi Q2L e-tron and Audi e-tron electric models, we are launching a new era in China with our partner FAW", said Audi CEO Bram Schot. "The compact SUV will be produced locally already this year and, beginning in 2020, the Audi e-tron (also displayed in Shanghai) will also be produced in China, our largest and most important market worldwide."
