Audi's New S4 Now Comes As A Wagon, But Only For Some People

Reveal /32 Comments

If you live in the US, this news might not mean so much.

Audi revealed the 2017 S4 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new B9S4 features an all-new 3.0-liter V6 that is turbocharged with direct-injection. This new powerplant is good for 345 horsepower (21 more than the previous generation). The new S4 can reach 60 mph in 4.7 seconds thanks to its eight-speed automatic. Now Audi has unveiled the more practical Avant version of the 2017 S4. The wagon doesn't differ much from the sedan other than offering 53.3 cubic feet of storage space compared to the sedan's 17 cubic feet.

Unfortunately, Americans won't be able to enjoy all of this storage space. Audi is planning a CUV to slot into its already large range of SUVs. Americans just don't buy wagons anymore, and this is truly disappointing. The new S4 Avant will offer excellent handling and a 4.9-second 0-60 mph time. The S4 sedan was a bit underwhelming upon release. It is missing a dual-clutch transmission, supercharger, and the option to row your own gears. Having a wagon variant in the US would certainlysoften the blowof missing out on all of these awesome features. Hopefully new Quattro GmbH CEOStephan Winkelmannwill inject some flare into Audi's US lineup in the future.
